The Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2014: Where the experts go
We’re less than four months away from Las Vegas’s opulent Venetian Hotel and Resort hosting the biggest SharePoint conference of the year, SharePoint Conference 2014 (or SPC14 for short). On March 3-6th, 2014, Microsoft SharePoint takes the main stage as thousands of SharePoint users, admins, partners, developers, consultants and vendors travel from all over the world to grab a seat at the myriad of classes, workshops, discussions and networking events showcased at the biennial event.
SPC14 has a clear objective for you to abide by: Connect. Reimagine. Transform.
In 2012, SPC12 gathered almost 10,000 attendees in Vegas at the Mandalay Bay where the big conversation piece was the release of SharePoint 2013. The first update in years to the Microsoft platform came with the promise of a faster release cycle thanks to improving cloud technology and an enhanced app model. SharePoint 2013 also introduced a strong social push thanks to the integration of Yammer.
So what is SPC14 bringing to the table?
How about a list of sessions that are tailored specifically to your SharePoint role within your organization? This year, Microsoft has handpicked the best of the best that focus on the latest trends and the best practices that can help you focus on tomorrow’s challenges. And not just anyone’s challenges… your specific challenges.
With the help of expert speakers, SPC14’s sessions will feature more than 200 breakout sessions that speak directly to SharePoint Developers, IT Professionals, Executives (C-Levels) and the SharePoint Power User. The SPC14 team has even been so kind as to break it down for you:

Expect around 70 different speakers with a wide range of SharePoint experience and expertise to show you where the industry and the platform is headed. Microsoft takes pride in providing something for everyone, whether it’s a broad overview, an in-depth study of upcoming features or additional product training, there is information that can fill anyone’s plate. And don’t forget the opportunity to take certification classes while you’re there.
SharePoint, the cloud and SPC14
Every conference, hundreds of Microsoft partners and vendors mingle with SharePoint MVPs and engineers to discuss the best solutions SharePoint can offer, and expect most of those conversations to center on the cloud in 2014. With Gartner’s claim that enterprise Cloud buy-in will grow 18.5% in 2013 to $131 billion and Microsoft’s less-than-subtle customer push into the cloud with their Office 365 offering and increased cloud-only updates, the cloud will certainly lead the conversation.
SharePoint is only getting stronger in the cloud. From quick deployments, easy scalability, and increased support, companies are bolstering their agility and using it to get to market faster than the competition that remains in-house. SPC14 will provide opportunities to meet with a worldwide SharePoint community to workshop and share your business needs and discover how similar demands were met in different ways from different organizations.
With a large number of vendors on hand in the exhibition hall, you’ll also be able to size your needs up with their solutions. Part of the strength of SharePoint conferences is the ability to meet these companies face to face and ask the hard questions to see how they match up with what you’ve been investigating. You can view demos and gather information to bring back home for the next round-table discussion.
What else can you expect from SPC14
Anyone who has attended Microsoft’s ode to SharePoint in the past knows there’s always a wild card. In the past, it’s meant a private party at Disneyland or an exclusive concert by Jon Bon Jovi. No news yet on what next year’s event will entail, but in Vegas… anything is possible.
So, where do you sign?
Registration has started with several ways to get you involved with SPC14. You can visit Microsoft’s registration page or just peruse the SPC14 site for more information on the event. They even provide a form letter that can be used to Convince Your Boss to send you to Vegas. And don’t forget to be a part of the conversation on Twitter by using #SPC14.
Of course, Fpweb.net will be there and we look forward to seeing everyone! When we’re not making late-night donations to the casinos, we’ll be happy to talk SharePoint Hosting with you and explain how our private cloud SharePoint environment gives you the control and support you need to run a successful business.
