SharePoint 2010 Beta Available to Public

SharePoint 2010 beta download is now publicly available. It was initially released to anyone with an MSDN subscription. If you are looking for a way to get this up and running fast, you can install SharePoint 2010 on Windows 7.
Bob Fox also had a great session at the SharePoint Virtual Conference about setting up a test lab with Hyper-V. I spoke to him briefly about the video recently at the SharePoint Road Show in Chicago which I attended with a few other Engineers from Fpweb.net. He indicated that it would make it to his blog eventually. For now you will have to register and view it on demand.
For those of you interested in a hosted SharePoint 2010 beta, Fpweb.net will be making that available through an exclusive partnership with Microsoft on or around February 1, 2010. Also, a little birdie told me that once SharePoint 2010 is out of beta and ready for mass public consumption, Fpweb.net will be providing FREE migrations from 2007 to 2010 for our hosted customers. So, if you’ve been on the fence about hosting a WSS v3 or MOSS 2007 environment because you’re waiting for 2010, it might pay to… well, not wait.
Interesting , how good the session was for hyper-v ? Currently im using vmware for the x64 support on my vista environment to run win2008 R2 64 for SP 2010 beta setup. Any recommendations ?
Sounds like you have a setup that works for you, so whatever you are most comfortable with should be fine. The issue’s that a lot of people are seeing is that vmware server (last time I looked) isn’t running on win 7. MS’s virtual pc is 32 bit only, which really narrows down the options for a virtual dev environment unless you have a server you can use. Here is a technet thread that talks about some of those issues.
