If the purpose of using SharePoint is to benefit from the productivity and collaboration that it enables, you’ll miss a key business benefit by disregarding FAST Search.

So what is FAST Search Server?

We’ve written a pretty comprehensive look at the features of FAST Search Server 2010 but in the meantime, here’s a brief summary:

Microsoft FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint takes all of the search and integration capabilities that are baked into SharePoint Server 2010 and then amplifies those capabilities with improved flexibility and scale along with beefing up the content processing to the point that it can index and search over a billion items. Which is a lot.

A New Season – Tom Brauch’s Fpweb.net Farewell

If you’re a baseball fan, this is a great time of year.  Spring Training is in full bloom and opening day is just a short time away.  If you’re fortunate enough to be able to visit Florida or Arizona this time of year, you know that the weather is fantastic and the nostalgic, throw-back stadiums are fraught with families, sunshine and your favorite players standing seemingly within reach.

It’s a chance to preview your team—to see who has come, who has left and to talk non-stop about what’s possible this year.  Maybe this year will be THE year.

This is also an exciting time for Fpweb.net that includes change along with great prospects of success.  One change is that this is my last “season” at Fpweb.net.  I am stepping away as President of Fpweb.net to take an opportunity that involves a move to Phoenix, Arizona.  This is a very unique opportunity and probably one of only a handful of scenarios I could think of that would ever take me away from the company that I love and have been proud to be a part of.  It brings me to one of my favorite places on earth and closer to family that I’ve dearly missed for far too long. It also gives my wife a chance to breathe!  (She’s a big asthma and allergy sufferer and Missouri is the last place you want to be for those ailments)

My time at Fpweb.net has been phenomenal.  I wouldn’t trade a minute.  I’ve made lasting friendships and worked with amazing clients.  But now is my chance to tell you the behind the scenes secrets and to pull back the curtain on all of our flaws!  Hah, yes, now is your chance to learn just what goes on around here as we lie, cheat and steal our way to the top!

Fpweb.net Eases SharePoint Life-cycle Management

rlamear_headshot
Fpweb.net Founder/CEO Rob LaMear

Some organizations have discovered the hard way that SharePoint is far easier to implement in theory than it is in practice, particularly when IT resources are scarce and training budgets have evaporated.  Sure, Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) is easy to download and SharePoint Server requires a bit more thought, but either way, users may find themselves faced with a blank slate that they don’t know how to use.  Even the initiated may discover they need immediate help or fast access to SharePoint templates, but have nowhere to turn.   Rather than grappling with the inner workings of SharePoint, companies large and small are turning to Fpweb.net so they can spend more time innovating and improving business processes.

“A lot of times, people in organizations are ready to go, but because SharePoint isn’t easy to customize, developers can take as long as eight months to deliver the solutions business managers are looking for,” said Rob LaMear IV, CEO of Fpweb.net (www.fpweb.net).
